My block

So it looks like we're blogging the source of my mental/emotional block over at When The Flames Go Up. No details until we sort it all out, but maybe just a little of the process will help me get past it now.

I think creative blocks kind of come with the territory when you experience emotional turmoil. It's kind of a romantic image of a writer to picture the heartbroken scribe pouring their sorrow into the great American novel. But really, I think that's crap. Like most positive things, creativity doesn't come from a place of insecurity, and I think emotional turmoil makes most sane people kind of insecure. I experienced a serious block last summer after lots of upheaval re: extended family, health, good friends experiencing a terrible loss. I sort of came to associate 2010 with everything bad, and once the year passed suddenly everything started flowing again (http://gotitma.blogspot.com/2011/01/1130-on-new-years-eve.html). I think there's something to be said for setting a marker like that. For me it was the end of the year, but it could be anything that is meaningful and coming up in the near future. It's like your troubles are a giant hair clog in your psyche. Pick a Drano day and imagine the clog getting washed away. Wishing you the best.

I'm in a rough place too and can relate. Maslow's hierarchy of needs says that our needs rank in priority from nourishment, shelter, safety etc up to self-actualisation. Without higher priority needs being met, you can't focus on the next level. I hope you find emotional safety soon so you can start climbing again. Until then, promise to go easy on yourself and I'll do the same.

Oh! Those children were silly. It is not proper to treat the parents like stranger. As a mother it really hurts, knowing that my kids don’t like me. It was a burden for me if they will be going to hate me.
