Foster

My husband and I also practice FAM, successfully, as we have had no pregnancies after 1 1/2 years using it, and I also HATE it when people call it the rhythm method. I also hate it when magazines and books have those "All about every birth control you could ever want to know" articles, and then absolutely FAIL to mention FAM/NFP. But they will mention Rhythm or Fertility Beads (blech).

Sorry for the author, but everyone I know who uses FAM (and I know quite a few) has been able to prevent and/or achieve pregnancies as they desired. So there *grumble grumble*

argh. I can't believe a NEW book would still have so much misinformation about NFP/FAM. We've had 100% success with it for almost 10 years (both to prevent AND acheive pregnancy). When done properly it has the same efficacy as the pill (96+%).

And I agree with Foster, it's so annoying to see this wonderful and highly effective method never get mentioned in articles about BC or on the posters of different BC methods at my OB's office...

Thanks so much for this really useful review. My dad was on more than 20 daily meds before he passed away at 81 last year, and I spent hours and hours and hours of googling trying to unearth and respond to the counterindications and side effects that his menagerie of doctors never seemed to coordinate. Sounds like this book would have been really helpful, but I bet I would have experienced a similar reaction to the one you had of feeling overwhelmed.

My mom is currently on a similar cornucopia of meds, many of which have increasingly alarming stories coming out about terrible health effects associated with them, most notably Zyprexa and now Avandia. So scary. Yet her docs are not only not alarmed, most of them are not even aware and don't even tell her about this stuff. We learned about the Zyprexa info from these horrible commercials from class action lawyers, talking precisely about adverse reactions that my mother had had in the past few years and that her doctors had never told her could be associated with that medication. It's really a full time job keeping up with all this!

I'll definitely check out the book, keeping your caveats in mind. Thanks.

As a pharmacist for almost two decades, Suzy Cohen knows that medication can often be invaluable. But she has also learned to "think outside the pill" and recommend natural options that are often just as good or better at promoting health without the risk of dangerous, drug-induced side effects. In this comprehensive, one-of-a-kind resource.

The nitty-gritty of what you do with your kids is up to you, although I'm happy to post questions here to get data points of how you could try approaching different stages, because, let's face it, this shit is hard. As for me, I have two kids who sleep through the night and can tie their own shoes. I've been a married SAHM, a married freelance WAHM, a divorcing WOHM, a divorced WOHM, and now a WAHM again.
